旅行保險是否一定要買？

Must take a private travel insurance, especially when you just buy a holiday package. It is because holiday package do not liable to travel agency if you have accident oversea.

On the other hand, if your join the travel trip hold by agency, their coverage is just cover basic items. In case you are sick that is not caused by or related to the event hold by agency, you need to pay your diagnosis/hospital fee by yourself when having treatment overseas.

So I strongly recommend you to get extra one on top. My cousins has experience to see doctor in Japan for temperature during holiday. Lucky that her travel insurance from Prudential cover the cost and make a claim successfully and easily.

yea, last time my flight to Thailand wasa delayed by a few hours and I got a few hundred of dollars for claims! The price of the insurance contract is relatively cheap that you will not concern much.

I agree, but it depends:
if the travel insurance was bought through the travel agency, then they will probably deal with the claim application for you
if the travel insurance was bought by yourself, you can ask your agent to help you do part of the claim application. Of course, if you buy it through online application without agent, then you need to do it yourself

Nobody can predict when accident may happen so travel insurance is a must buy before travel but you can easily buy online with discount rater than buying together with package at travel agency.

IMHO, if you buy the insurance from a travel agent, they probably can offer you more assistance when there is a trouble, especially when you are on a tour group, i will go for travel insurance from travel agent... they have the obligation to help...

If you go for a package on your own, either channel can do, but still, travel agency can help to arrange some claims follow up despite they are a bit more expensive.

One major point to share, look for insurance companies specialised in Travel Insurance (Zurxxx, AxU/Charxxx, BX), coz they are more experienced in handle evac case (not only rely on the Assistance services centre) and there are lot of hidden terms which you cannot read from the leaflet... and somethings even the insurance agents did not aware, taking the hot-balloon case as an example...

One more things.. don't bother on the discount, only save you a few tens dollars, but the benefits may be much reduced..

It depends actually...if you go to bank branch for purchasing travel insurance, its will be 30% more expensive than purchasing it online or via atm machine...but the cover will be same

旅遊保險最好於出發前30日購買，如到中銀分行就要於出發前七個工作天處理。
因上年復活節假期有朋友到國內旅行，出發前1日到中銀分行買旅遊保險，不幸於回程當日早上中風。更下幸是中銀總行沒有記錄，原因是所有保險由總行處理，但由分行購買到總行入電腦約4個工作天。當然假期無人返工而24小時支援熱線又無記錄。
