I think the 91K metering sensors is another technology break through in D4/D800 that seldom be mentioned.
In theory this 91k sensor can improve the portrait focusing (especially kids shooting), metering (both with or without iTTL flash), and focus tracking.
However, seldom see user practice to prove what Nikon claimed
I think D800 is a good solution for bird shooters who can shoot in DX mode with 16MP resolution and tele lens.
But, I DON'T think D800 is a solution for wide-to-normal DX lenses (12-24, 10.5, 17-55. as you said)
Because, if you keep on using DX mode, why not use a DX body (e.g. D400 or D7x00)? DX body is much cheaper and lighter.
Don't forget the good performance of D800 sensor is based on the FX size sensor, the measurement
base on DX mode is much weaker! |
