hi:

any one have any idea about the IT job salary in Hong Kong. I am currently in USA and thinking of moving back to Hong Kong. any idea. I have about 10 yrs of programming experience here in USA (mainly in C++). thanks for your help

I know that, that is why I ask here. remember, income tax in USA for most people is about 35% plus state tax of 10% plus other stupid thing like medicare ... Hong Kong maybe higher for me after tax. who know. Plus I personally do not expect software in Hong Kong will work as hard as I am in USA.

Software development salary in HK is only good for fresh graduate.  The outlook is poor for experienced hires.

In terms of salary, there is no comparison. You should still get higher salary in the US as a programmer even after all the taxes. This is especially true since you have 10yrs of working experience. Unless, of course, if you are getting really low pay right now (i.e. >10% below average).

You should be able to get a higher pay job in the financial sector as their IT people, but those guys work long hours too.

However, there are many advantages of moving back to HK, such as career advancement, family, culture, ...etc. Also, China is a big market for all sort of industries and there are many opportunities if you are looking at the right place.

with 10 yrs programming u should be heading at least project/infra manager in hk or system architect la
but you mainly go c++ , but be a bit harder to find other job in hk cause the mobile market is getting heavier

You can try to get a job in a MNC first and transfer back to HK or APAC.
Salary will be a lot better than HK local IT.

Also, you may want to talk with your boss as well and see if they value your contribution to the company or not.
They may like to keep you and ask you to work from home remotely.

香港人工可以好高,但...一日做十幾個鐘,又沒有成功感! 你在外國人工及扣稅後的收入及生活水平應該會比在香港好! ( 好多野唔係單純看表面的價錢)
